Size: They are available in two sizes: standard, which ranges from 7 to 14 Kilograms , and miniature, which is up to 5 Kilograms.
Coat: They come in three coat types: smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired, and are available in a variety of colors and patterns.
Temperament: Dachshunds are recognised for their playful and curious demeanor, often coupled with a stubborn streak. They are smart, courageous, and exhibit profound loyalty to their families.
Lifespan: Around 12-16 years
Exercise Needs: They have a moderate energy level, enjoying daily walks and playtime, yet they are not suited for intense activities.
Ideal Family and Environment
Dachshunds make excellent family pets. They are wonderful with children, particularly when socialized properly, and they can coexist peacefully with other pets. Their playful and loving demeanor renders them perfect companions for families with children.
Living Space: They are quite adaptable to different living spaces, such as apartments, thanks to their compact size. Nevertheless, they require consistent exercise and mental engagement to stave off boredom.
Activity Level: They appreciate moderate exercise, including daily walks and playtime, but they are equally happy to relax and snuggle with their owners.
Attention: Dachshunds thrive on human companionship and do not like being left alone for long periods. They can suffer from separation anxiety if left alone too often
Training: They are intelligent but can be stubborn. Consistent, positive reinforcement methods work best with them
Health Considerations: Due to their long backs, they can be prone to spinal issues. It’s important to avoid activities that put strain on their backs, such as jumping from heights
